I am the mother of three young adults and I have been actively involved throughout the formative years of their lives, plus I have spent most of my life helping and caring for people in some capacity or other. I have done part-time home schooling in language arts and did many hours of volunteer work at the schools my children attended. I was self-employed for 13 years operating day care in my home. I also spent many hours of volunteering in the evening with Scouts Canada as a Beaver and Cub leader for 8 years in the community. After a stressful time in my life with the illness and subsequent death of my mother, I became interested in the services of the Hospice. After the year waiting period, I took the mandatory 14 week training sessions to become a volunteer so I could give back to the community the support I received during my time of grieving. I did some time as well in the newly formed volunteer driving program with the V.O.N. and enjoyed talking to the clients while waiting for their medical appointments. While living in England for 4 years I also became active in my community, helping with a youth group called the “Friday Club”, and spent time promoting Canadian Culture. More recently I was co-owner and helped operated a non-profit ministry called “Harvest Coffee House and Play Land”, which was a quiet and safe environment for parents to get together for socializing while their preschoolers played. When “Harvest Coffee House” closed a new ministry began, a teen drop-in centre called “Foundations of Friendship and Faith”, which I helped set up and volunteered my time and services from 2002-2005.
